FDA delays decision on Pfizer, Bristol-Myers drug

(AP) ? Shares of Pfizer Inc. and Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. fell Monday after federal regulators unexpectedly delayed for a second time a decision on whether to approve the companies' highly touted experimental anticlotting drug Eliquis.

Some analysts see Eliquis as better than two new clot-preventing pills that beat it to market, but the latest delay means a U.S. launch of Eliquis likely won't happen until next year.

The Food and Drug Administration said it wants more information on "data management and verification" from a huge international study called ARISTOTLE that examined how well Eliquis prevented strokes in patients with an irregular heartbeat called atrial fibrillation, the drugmakers said Monday.

The companies said the FDA did not ask for new studies, and they plan to work quickly to address outstanding questions. Even so, a spokeswoman for New York-based Bristol-Myers said the agency could take up to six months to review their response.

"We are already working with the agency, and we are hopeful that the review of our submission can be completed within a shorter timeframe," said spokeswoman Laura Hortas.

Analyst Erik Gordon, a professor at University of Michigan's Ross School of Business, said the FDA requiring more information on data management and verification indicates "someone either flubbed the application by not making the data management process clear or flubbed the actual data process."

"It's a giant botch-up to, at best, lose a year on one of your much-needed blockbusters," Gordon added.

In afternoon trading, Bristol-Myers shares dropped $1.17, or 3.3 percent, at $34.19, and Pfizer shares fell 23 cents to $22.49 per share.

The news has a bigger impact on Bristol-Myers, because it is much smaller than Pfizer, the world's biggest drugmaker. Also, the FDA in January delayed a decision on another crucial experimental drug from Bristol, diabetes treatment Forxiga, known chemically as dapagliflozin. The agency said it needed more data, including data from an ongoing study and possibly new studies, to assess Forxiga's benefits and risks.

Eliquis, known chemically as apixaban, is one of a handful of new drugs meant to prevent heart attacks and strokes better than warfarin ? long the standard treatment despite how tricky it is to use. Eliquis, Boehringer Ingelheim GmbH's Pradaxa and Xarelto from Johnson & Johnson and Bayer HealthCare all are expected to grow into much-needed blockbusters for their makers, with annual sales topping $1 billion.

"All of this is surprising given the widespread perception that Eliquis is a best-in-class product relative to already-approved" Pradaxa and Xarelto, BernsteinResearch analyst Dr. Tim Anderson wrote of the new delay.

It could benefit Xarelto and Pradaxa, and possibly a fourth stroke-preventing pill in late-stage testing by Daiichi Sankyo, called edoxaban, Barclays analyst C. Anthony Butler wrote to investors.

"The longer time window is significant in a market that appears to be less open to switches (from warfarin) than previously assumed," Butler wrote.

He added that if Bristol-Myers and Pfizer give the FDA the new information by September, the agency could make a decision next March. That would be a year after the FDA's original target date for a decision on Eliquis. At the end of March, the FDA pushed back its original deadline until June 28, saying it needed more time to review additional information the companies submitted after applying for approval late last year.

Both men noted analysts may revise their sales forecasts for Eliquis, which Anderson had pegged at $2.3 billion in 2015 and $3.5 billion in 2020.

Doctors and millions of patients have long wanted a better alternative to warfarin, an inexpensive generic drug also sold under brand names such as Coumadin. Getting the dose of warfarin correct is so tricky that patients must have frequent blood tests to ensure they're getting enough to prevent clots but not enough to cause internal bleeding. Some foods interact with warfarin, compounding the difficulty.

Bristol-Myers discovered Eliquis and since 2007 has been testing it in partnership with New York-based Pfizer. The European Union approved it in May for preventing blood clots in patients getting hip or knee replacement surgery, and the companies are considering whether to seek approval for that use in the U.S., Hortas said. The drug also is in late-stage testing for treating patients with clots in major blood vessels.

Pradaxa, also known as dabigatran, was first to market, getting approved in October 2010 for patients with atrial fibrillation. Xarelto has since been approved for patients with atrial fibrillation and for preventing blood clots after hip or knee replacement surgery. But J&J said last week the FDA denied its request to expand approval of Xarelto to prevent life-threatening blood clots in patients with acute coronary artery disease, and it expects to work with them to address the questions as quickly as possible.

E-mail Marketing Tips for Internet Marketers

E-mail marketing is one of the most tried, tested, and true forms of making money online.

Simple idea?? you email people who have raised their hand and said they want to get email from you. Your email messages discuss many things among which concern certain products that you think they?ll like. As you may imagine, there?s a lot more that goes on with this type of marketing than most people realize. You know, making sales from people usually requires a great deal of work and time. Here?s what happens ? once you work hard to put everything into place, you?ll discover things change and what is possible will be a true eye-opener.

Ok ? here?s how you can begin looking beneath the surface of this marketing powerhouse.

Don?t overwhelm your readers by including to many promotional offers in your e-mails. If you try to promote too many offers in one e-mail you run the risk of overwhelming your recipients as well as creating e-mails so long that nobody will want to read all the way through them! One sales message per e-mail will help give you the results that you are after. The goal is to identify a problem that your readers have and then to present your singular product as the best solution to their problem; so, why would you confuse them with more than one solution? Simply put: you will have more success if you sell one thing at a time.

Remember to send out some of your emails without a sales message included in them. It?s actually possible to increase responses when you offer your mailing list helpful advice or tips about your niche topic. Your recipients will appreciate that you are offering things to them for free. It will also increase the chances of your e-mails actually being opened and read all the way through-a challenge that every e-mail marketer faces and worries about. How much testing do you perform in your business? If you do it, great, and if not then you really need to start using it as quickly as is practical. Here is an example, you can test something new with Affiliate Overthrow in your email marketing by only mailing to half your list. To be fair, people who have only begun with their businesses would not know to do this, and it really is something that you would read about later.

Most online businesses probably jump in with both feet which is something that opens them up to potential disaster. The scope of some projects can quickly and easily overwhelm a lot of newer marketers, and in that case do some testing and see what your results are. If it is related to email marketing, then you take a small percentage of your list and perform a simple test.

For use on your site, you may find that a home page test or an internal page test is the way to go. Any time you hear the word, testing, you should automatically think about measuring and tracking.

You also shouldn?t send messages too often. There are some who believe they need to send messages out every single day, or at least every other day. This could really be overkill. Can you imagine trying to write an original email every single day? What?s more, when the people on your mailing list get used to receiving another email from you every single day trying to sell them stuff, they?ll just start deleting your emails unread. Buyers may become so annoyed that they?ll unsubscribe instead of buying. This is the internet marketing equivalent of the pushy salesman who hounds a customer so much that the buyer ends up walking away.

Your email list can become an open audience, they?ll want to hear from you and listen to your marketing messages with open minds. This is a powerful tool for any internet marketer and almost always leads to certain success. The fact is that you are more likely to make the sale when you are selling to people who want to hear from you. General advertising, including from your own sites, will always only produce limited sales. Almost all successful online marketers earn the bulk of their income from their lists.

UK in EU legal stink over garlic from China

UK in EU legal stink over garlic from China

Britain is being taken to court by the European Commission in a battle over a ?15m unpaid tax bill on imports of Chinese garlic.

The UK mistakenly classified fresh garlic imported from China as frozen, which has a lower tax rate.

The European Commission is demanding compensation for the missing tax and is taking legal action to recover it.

The action was branded "vindictive" by Conservative MEP group leader Richard Ashworth.

The mistake was revealed during an inspection by the European Anti-Fraud Office in July 2006. The UK authorities were then asked to to justify why they had issued authorising documents for frozen garlic between 2005 and 2006.

The European Commission said it had begun demanding compensation in January 2008 and launched legal action after the UK's "continued failure" to pay.
'Common interest'

In a statement, the European Commission said: "In failing to collect the correct amount, the UK authorities did not act with all due care.

"The UK authorities, however, have failed to compensate for the missing amount, by claiming that the customs took all necessary actions justified by the case."

The statement said the European Commission was taking legal action "to protect the common EU interest," adding: "Fair treatment of all member states must be ensured - if one member state fails to deliver on its obligation to collect the common resources of the EU budget, the other member states are forced to pay more as a result."

Commenting on the row, Richard Ashworth MEP said: "I'm sorry to say that the aggressive approach of the Commission - over garlic of all things - leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

"In such hard times, when all countries, including ours, are looking to save every bit of money they can just to combat the debt crisis, it defies all sense of proportion to be taking Britain to court over what amounts to a demand for garlic tax.

"Whether or not you care for the aroma of garlic, nobody likes the whiff of vindictiveness."

All customs duties charged on imports of goods coming from a non-EU country are collected by member states on behalf of the EU and paid to the common EU budget as part of each member state's annual contributions.

PST: France faces tall task vs. Spain at Euro 2012

source: Getty Images

If Sweden was France?s wake-up call, what do we call Spain? Les Bleus face the defending world and European champions Saturday in Donetsk, a match that asks France to complete one of the more remarkable one-match turnarounds in recent memory. On Monday, the Group D favorites lost to a Sweden team that had failed to record a point through two rounds. In the process they gave up first place in their group. Just under one week later, their tournament lives depend on beating a team that has lost just two competitive matches since 2007.

Stylistically, it?s a bad matchup for France. The two losses Spain?s suffered have come to teams that played for counter attacks ? defending deep and rarely challenging Spain?s control of the game. The United States defeated Spain 2-0 at 2009?s Confederations Cup by sitting on the early lead gifted them by some horrible Spanish defending. Switzerland upset Spain 1-0 at the last World Cup on the back of one lightning bolt counter attack. If this type of approach is in the French repertoire, we?ve yet to see it.

Of the teams that qualified for the quarterfinals, France may have been the least efficient in the final third. They?ve had a lot of the ball and at times have looked quite fluid, but they?ve generated a disproportionately small number of chances, scoring only three times. The biggest concern when they face Spain: Two of their three goals have been the product of a possession-based attack. Against Spain, they won?t see much of the ball.

Not proficient at counter attacking, without a killer dead ball specialist, and not particularly good on set pieces, what can France lean on against Spain? The same thing the United States used in South Africa: Patience and opportunism. Perhaps the United States are a better counter attacking team than France, and surely they were more used to playing without the ball, but there?s always a chance Spain (or any team) can replicate those errors. No matter the style Laurent Blanc employs on Saturday, France is going to have to make the most of those few chances Spain grants them.

Kickoff is at 2:45 p.m. Eastern time. Here is your playlist.

source: AP1. Let?s be, Franck

France does have one option beyond pure opportunism. On their left, they have one of the best wide attackers in the world: Bayern Munich?s Franck Ribery. When Laurent Blanc sketches out the Spanish formation, the pairing of right back Alvaro Arbeloa opposite his best attacker carries a lot more promise than any other match up.

The problem comes in getting the ball to Ribery. Think back to Spain?s three group games, and it?s hard to remember very many players having a lot of chances on the ball. Luka Modric stands out, but he played through the middle. Italy?s Antonio Cassano and Mario Balotelli had a few opportunities thanks to Andrea Pirlo, a combination that provides France some hope. Blanc may need Yohan Cabaye to do his best Pirlo impression in order to take advantage of Ribery.

2. More left versus right

In the corner opposite Ribery and Arbeloa, Spain will be pressing one of their advantages: Andres Iniesta on anybody. By formation, it should be France right back Mathieu Debuchy, though with Iniesta often coming inside, midfielders Alou Diarra and Yann M?Vila will be pressed into action. It will likely take a team effort to slow down a man making a claim as the tournament?s best player.

The battle could be the biggest test of M?Vila?s young career. The highly touted defensive midfielder is projected to be one of the world?s best at his position, precisely the reason why Arsenal has considered spending some very un-Arsenal-like money to get him from Rennes. But to live up to that hype and price, he?ll be expected to perform in these types of situations.

M?Vila won?t be expected to completely shut down Iniesta, but he must prevent him from influencing the game coming in from the left. While M?Vila providing that deterrent means Debuchy will likely see more of the Barcelona star, at least it will be in a less dangerous spot on the field. And Debuchy?s unlikely to have to handle him alone.

source: AP3. Haven?t missed you so far

One of our major reasons for downgrading Spain?s prospects going into the tournament was the absence of Carles Puyol. The holders? best defender underwent knee surgery last month and won?t be available against until late summer. That?s forced Sergio Ramos inside, Arbeloa into the starting XI, but most importantly, it?s deprived Spain of the player most likely to handle people like Karim Benzema.

France?s number nine hasn?t had a huge impact challenging for goals mostly because he?s been playing like a nine-and-a-half or ten. While Samir Nasri orchestrated the attack against England, Benzema has served as the focal point in the matches that have followed, providing both assists on France?s goals versus Ukraine.

Against Benzema, Puyol could be particularly missed. Benzema?s willingness to drop from his position and take the ball to feet will require strong decision making from Spain?s central defenders. If they can break up the play, follow him, but they better be sure. One touch to Nasri or Cabaye gives another skilled passer a chance to target the space that?s been vacated.

With Puyol, you have somebody who makes the right decision almost every time.?Can we say the same about Sergio Ramos and Gerard Pique? It?s a high standard to meet.

4. Too soon?

France has come a long way in two years, and by almost anybody?s post-South Africa expectations, they are ahead of schedule. Their status as Group D favorites showed the regard the rest of Europe?s cultivated for their new core. With nine of their potential starters 26 or younger, France?s best days are ahead of them.

This game, however, seems like too much, too soon. The steep climb from South African?s trough to where they are now leaves them a promising but untested team. This core doesn?t have the experience of leading a team into must win games. That may have shown against Sweden.

Spain?s a big ask for any team, and as we saw when Germany and the Netherlands met La Roja in the World Cup, the champions have a way of taking the best teams out of their game. It all just feels like a little too much, too soon for France to handle. Saturday may prove to be a valuable if disappointing learning experience.

TO REBOOT the Greek economy, first check the system hardware is up to date. The parliament and civil service of the "pro-Euro" government that could be formed this week needs an overhaul of its technology if it is to have any chance of transforming the country's fortunes.

"What Greece needs is significant support, not just financial, but technical," says Vassilis Monastiriotis, an economist at the London School of Economics' Hellenic Observatory. "We still don't have computerisation for systems such as tax collection."

Greece needs a technological and organisational "big bang" to computerise and connect all 14 ministries so they can begin recording data and statistics. Monastiriotis says the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development warned last year that without such a boost, the government would be powerless to transform Greece into the modern state demanded by its creditors.

LeRoy Neiman, artist of sports world, dies in NY

NEW YORK (AP) ? LeRoy Neiman, the painter and sketch artist best known for evoking the kinetic energy of the world's biggest sporting and leisure events with bright quick strokes, died Wednesday at age 91.

Neiman also was a contributing artist at Playboy magazine for many years and official painter of five Olympiads. His longtime publicist Gail Parenteau confirmed his death Wednesday but didn't disclose the cause.

Neiman was a media-savvy artist who knew how to enthrall audiences with his instant renditions of what he observed. In 1972, he sketched the world chess tournament between Boris Spassky and Bobby Fischer in Reykjavik, Iceland, for a live television audience.

He also produced live drawings of the Olympics for TV and was the official computer artist of the Super Bowl for CBS.

Neiman's "reportage of history and the passing scene ... revived an almost lost and time-honored art form," according to a 1972 exhibit catalog of the artist's Olympics sketches at the Indianapolis Museum of Art.

"It's been fun. I've had a lucky life," Neiman said in a June 2008 interview with The Associated Press. "I've zeroed in on what you would call action and excellence. ... Everybody who does anything to try to succeed has to give the best of themselves, and art has made me pull the best out of myself."

Neiman's paintings, many executed in household enamel paints that allowed the artist his fast-moving strokes, are an explosion in reds, blues, pinks, greens and yellows of pure kinetic energy.

He has been described as an American impressionist, but the St. Paul, Minn., native preferred to think of himself simply as an American artist.

"I don't know if I'm an impressionist or an expressionist," he told the AP. "You can call me an American first. ... (but) I've been labeled doing neimanism, so that's what it is, I guess."

He worked in many media, producing thousands of etchings, lithographs and silkscreen prints known as serigraphy.

But his critics said Neiman's forays into the commercial world minimized him as a serious artist. At Playboy, for example, he created Femlin, the well-endowed nude that has graced the magazine's Party Jokes page since 1957.

Neiman shrugged off such criticism.

"I can easily ignore my detractors and feel the people who respond favorably," he said.

Neiman was fascinated with large game animals, and twice traveled to Kenya to paint lions and elephants "in the bush" in his trademark vibrant palette.

But it was the essence of a basketball or football game, swim meet or cycling event that captured his imagination most.

"For an artist, watching a (Joe) Namath throw a football or a Willie Mays hit a baseball is an experience far more overpowering than painting a beautiful woman or leading political figure," Neiman said in 1972.

With his sketchbook and pencil, trademark handlebar mustache and slicked back hair, Neiman was instantly recognizable.

At a New York Jets game at Shea Stadium in 1975, fans yelled, "Put LeRoy in," when the play wasn't going their way.

Neiman's decades-long association with Playboy began in 1953 following a chance meeting with Hugh Hefner. It was the start of what he called "the good life" and inspiration for much of his future work.

He regularly contributed to the magazine's "Man at His Leisure" feature, which took him to such places as the Grand National Steeplechase and Ascot in England, the Cannes Film Festival in France and the Grand Prix auto race in Monaco.

Neiman was a self-described workaholic who seldom took vacations and had no hobbies. He worked daily in his New York City home studio at the Hotel des Artistes near Central Park that he shared with his wife of more than 50 years, Janet.

"What else am I good for?" he said in 2008. "I don't think about anything else."

To prove it, he said he was working on a large scale project for a Louisville, Ky., horse festival planned for 2010.

Another later project, a 160-foot-long sports mural, hangs in the Sports Museum of America in New York that opened in 2008.

Neiman was also a portraitist who captured some of the world's most iconic figures, Frank Sinatra and Babe Ruth among them, in a style that conveyed their public image.

"I am less concerned with how people look when they wake," he said. "A person's public presence reflects his own efforts at image development."

One face he recorded over and over again was that of Muhammad Ali. Those painting and sketches, representing 15 years of the prizefighter's professional life, permanently reside at the LeRoy Neiman Gallery at the Muhammad Ali Center in Louisville, Ky.

Over the years, Neiman has endowed a number of institutions, donating $6 million in 1995 for the creation of the LeRoy Neiman Center for Print Studies at Columbia University and $3 million to his alma mater, the Art Institute of Chicago, where he taught for a decade.

He also donated $1 million to create a permanent home for Arts Horizons, a community art center in Harlem.

His works are in the permanent collections of many private and public museums. The Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., was selected by Neiman to house his archives.

"I just love what I do," Neiman told the AP. "I love the passion you go through while you're creating" and the public's "very thoughtful and careful studied and emotional reaction of what you're doing."

He added: "It's a wonderful feeling."

Video: Study: drinking early in pregnancy OK?

>>> well, this is one of those studies where the results should be quickly followed by someone saying this doesn't mean you necessarily have to try this. nevertheless, this new study out of denmark finds moderate drinking by pregnant women , meaning five to eight drinks per week early in pregnancy had no impact on their children, their neurological development or attention span later in life. this may explain why a bunch of us turned out okay against all odds. and a reminder here, for a good reason the u.s. surgeon general flatly advises against pregnant women consuming alcohol. we wanted to

But in 2012-era hip-hop, Harlem (and Brooklyn, and Detroit, and Miami, and Atlanta, and Toronto, and on and on) is becoming less a specific place that an artist hails from and tailors her sound to reflect, and more an aesthetic option, among many, that she can gesture toward or ignore as she sees fit. Another notable hip-hop rookie is the smooth-talking A$AP Rocky, who also comes from Harlem, but who stresses to interviewers how geographically unrestricted his style is: A product, he says, of an adolescence spent devouring not only New York titans like Eric B. and Rakim (his parents named him after the latter artist) but also acts like DJ Quik, from Los Angeles, and UGK, from Port Arthur, Texas. In his songs, Rocky is as comfortable maneuvering through the slow-mo sludge of Texas screw-music as he is aping the singsong pitter-patter of Cleveland?s Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, and he?s no less convincing for this carpet-bagging. Many of his tracks fall into a new, Internet-born sub-sub-genre, nicknamed ?cloud rap? for its diaphanous textures and foggy melodies. Cloud rap?s other main practitioners hail from the Bay Area (Lil B, Main Attrakionz), Seattle (Keyboard Kid), and New Jersey (Clams Casino), all of them collaborating with each other via broadband connections?cloud has a nice double meaning in this context. We listen to an artist like Atlanta?s Young Jeezy, in part, for his blunt evocation of place: run-down drug houses, musty strip joints, classic cars orbiting the perimeter. We listen to an artist like A$AP Rocky for rich evocations of everywhere and nowhere.

Apple asks developers to focus on graphics in first OS X 10.7.5 beta

By AppleInsider Staff

Published: 03:28 PM EST (12:28 PM PST) Apple has supplied its development community with the first beta of OS X 10.7.5, its forthcoming maintenance update to the Lion operating system.

People familiar with the beta issued on Tuesday indicated that it is identified as build 11G15. Those testing the software have reportedly been asked to concentrate on testing graphics performance and quality along with networking reliability and performance.

Another area of focus is said to be the importing, editing or viewing of images and media. The delta download is reportedly a 937-megabyte installer, while the combo update weighs in at 1.87 gigabytes.

AppleInsider first reported on Monday that Apple was preparing to issue the first preview of OS X 10.7.5 to members of the Apple Developer Connection.

Details on what exactly has been changed in the first beta of OS X 10.7.5 remain unknown, but any fixes or updates are likely to be relatively insignificant with OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion set to hit the Mac App Store in July.

The most recent update to Lion, OS X 10.7.4, was publicly released in early May. It included a fix for a potential security flaw in FileBug.

Apple and Liquidmetal hug it out, lengthen their pact until 2014

Liquidmetal exampleThe deal between Apple and Liquidmetal was originally supposed to be a short-term fling. Technically, it expired in February this year, less than two years after the couple first met. There must have been a spark, as the two have just decided to extend their licensing deal through to February 2014. Of course, simply having a deal isn't the same as putting it to use, and there's no certainty that we'll see anything exotic materialize out of it: the last time Liquidmetal's extra-sturdy alloy was used in an Apple product, it wound up in a SIM card ejector tool. Still, Apple must have found something it wants to make in order to keep its union going forward, whether it's another tiny pack-in with an iPhone or (once costs allow) something a tad larger.

Windows 7 running well on rMBP

Installed Windows 7 using bootcamp. Bootcamp package took a long time to download from the Apple servers. After a few failed attempts at burning it to a CD, I used a USB3 hard disk formatted as FAT32; turns out the files are over 1GB so they won't fit on a CD. All drivers installed once I ran the bootcamp package in Windows 7. The Nvidia driver was 296.xx and I updated it to the new 304.48 using the package on Laptopvideo2go with the modded nvwi.inf file.

Screen resolution is currently set to 2880x1800 with text scaling at 150%. It looks great. I previously had the HP Envy 15 with its 1080p Radiance display, and am very pleased the rMBP panel display red beautifully; I returned the HP as incredulously could not display red properly.

Windows 8 Release Preview can easily be installed from Windows 7, if desired.

Only think really missing is Optimus or display switching. The Intel graphics are nowhere to be found in Windows. Hopefully there will be a utility from Apple, Nvidia, or a third party that ultimately will enable use of the integrated graphics on battery which will considerably prolong life. In the meantime, OSX will be used whenever longer battery life is needed.

Egypt elections: Muslim Brotherhood in a fight for survival

The Muslim Brotherhood has a lot to lose if the group's candidate?fails to win Egypt's presidential elections runoff. Turnout appears?light on the second day of voting.

By Kristen Chick,?Correspondent / June 17, 2012

The Muslim Brotherhood movement in Egypt is fighting for political?survival against the country's military rulers, resisting the?military's attempts to dissolve the parliament and urging voters to?back the Brotherhood's man for president on this second day of voting.

Relatively few Egyptians appear to be turning out to cast ballots as?the Brotherhood?s presidential candidate, Mohamed Morsi, faces former?military man Ahmed Shafiq in a race that has high stakes for the?Brotherhood. If Mr. Shafiq wins, many in the once-banned organization?fear a return to the days of ousted President Hosni Mubarak, when?Brotherhood members were often arrested in their homes and detained?for years.

The Brotherhood?s Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) said in a statement?Saturday evening that the military has no right to order the?dissolution of parliament, and such a decision can only come through a?national referendum. The statement is a challenge to the Supreme?Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), the military generals ruling?Egypt, who said a Thursday court ruling means the parliament is null.?The generals have sent soldiers to the assembly building who are?refusing to allow members of parliament to enter.

?The constant threat to dissolve a parliament elected by the will of?30 million Egyptians confirms the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces??desire for a total power grab against the popular will,? said the FJP?in a statement that called the ruling a ?blatant attack on the great?Egyptian revolution.?

The SCAF?s decision is based on a ruling by Egypt?s Supreme?Constitutional Court Thursday that the law governing the parliamentary?elections, which ended in January, erred when it allowed parties to?contest the seats reserved for independents.

Coming after months of threats of parliament dissolution by the?SCAF-appointed government to the Brotherhood,?and from a court full of Mubarak-appointed justices, the ruling is?seen by many in Egypt as politicized. It has increased the power of?the military, and hurt the Brotherhood, whose party held about half?the seats in parliament and had used that position to secure a solid?hold on a committee elected to write Egypt?s new constitution. The?military has now indicated it will appoint a new constitutional?committee.
