Trent University and Fleming College announced the winner of their friendly fundraising competition for the United Way of Peterborough and District at a coffee break on Thursday, December 10, 2012.
Paul Ayotte, United Way campaign chair for 2012 and Jim Russell, chief executive officer of the United Way of Peterborough and District, named Trent the winner.
Dr. Steven E. Franklin, president and vice-chancellor of Trent University presented Dr. Tony Tilly, president of Fleming College, with a Trent shirt, which he wore at the event. The presidents congratulated Trent and Fleming employees on another successful United Way fundraising campaign.
The campaign started with a Kick Off BBQ on Friday, September 28, 2012, which raised $800 for the United Way. Aramark generously provided the food for that so all proceeds went directly to the United Way of Peterborough & District.
For the 2012 campaign, Trent University and Fleming College raised a combined total of close to $100,000 for the United Way of Peterborough and District. Trent raised $69,040, surpassing its goal of $67,000.
The friendly competition with Fleming College was based on participation rate of full-time staff and faculty, not the total amount raised. Trent had a 22 per cent participation rate of full-time staff and faculty this year, while Fleming had close to 20 per cent.
Trent University?s United Way campaign is for Trent staff, faculty and retirees. Joanne Sokolowski, manager of Convocation and University Functions, ran the campaign at Trent, assisted by faculty co-chair Dr. Erica Nol, professor of Biology, and staff co-chair Linda Smith, a project manager in Trent?s Physical Resources Department. Thank you and congratulations to everybody in the Trent community who participated in the campaign.
